Title: ES.C.6.2 - Meal and Rest Periods for Agricultural Workers.
Date Issued: August 11, 2016.
Description: This policy provides guidance on the obligation to pay agricultural piece-rate workers for their rest periods, as confirmed by the Washington supreme court opinion, Demetrio v. Sakuma Brothers Farms. The policy was amended to address questions raised including: Agreements for a separate rate of pay for rest periods, calculating rest period pay when the worker is paid both a piece rate and an hourly rate of pay, how to treat bonuses, and documentation of payment for rest periods.
