Lowering of the Washington State and United States Flags

I hereby direct that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in memory of U.S. Army Sergeant Clifford E. Beattie, 37, of Medical Lake, who died May 22 of injuries sustained in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

Please notify your staff and all of your field offices and facilities around the state.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Wednesday, or first thing Thursday morning, June 2.

Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.
