Latest version.
  • Specialty or "special needs" training provides instruction in care giving skills that meet the special needs of people living with mental illness, dementia, or developmental disabilities. Specialty trainings are different for each population served and are not interchangeable. Specialty training may be integrated with basic training if the complete content of each training is included. DSHS must approve specialty training curricula for LTCWs.
    Specialty training includes:
    (1) Mental health training;
    (2) Dementia training;
    (3) Eighteen hour DD specialty training; and
    (4) Other specialty training as identified as required by the population being supported.
