- (1) The assisted living facility must maintain electric light fixtures and lighting necessary for the comfort and safety of residents and for the activities of residents and staff.(2) The assisted living facility must provide enough lighting in each resident's room to meet the resident's needs, preferences and choices.(3) New assisted living facility construction must, at a minimum, meet the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) recommendations for lighting in common areas as established in the IESNA lighting handbook. The applicable handbook is the edition in effect on the date a construction review fee is paid to the department of health, construction review services, for new assisted living facility construction.(4) Existing assisted living facility construction must maintain, at a minimum, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) recommendations for lighting in common areas as established in the IESNA lighting handbook.
