Section 388-27-0390. How does an adoptive parent get reimbursed for nonrecurring adoption expenses?

- (1) Before the adoption is finalized, the adoptive parent must sign an agreement with the department specifying the nature and amount of nonrecurring adoption expenses. This agreement may be part of an adoption support agreement or it may be a separate agreement specific to the reimbursement for nonrecurring adoption finalization costs. The department will make no reimbursement payments unless such an agreement exists.(2) Upon finalization of the adoption, the adoptive parent may request reimbursement. A copy of the adoption decree and documentation supporting actual costs incurred must accompany the request for reimbursement.(3) The department must reimburse documented actual costs or the amount specified in the signed agreement, whichever is less.(4) The department will not reimburse nonrecurring adoption expenses that are reimbursable from other sources (for example: IRS, military, or the adoptive parent's employer).[Statutory Authority: RCW 74.13.031.
