Section 388-148-1525. What are the educational and vocational instruction requirements for children in care?

- (1) You must meet the following requirements for providing education and vocational instruction to the children under your care. For each child you must:(a) Follow the educational plan approved by the child's DSHS worker;(b) Home schooling is prohibited for all children in the care and custody of the department;(c) Support the child in regular school attendance. If a child is absent from school you must follow the school's reporting requirements. Notify the child's DSHS worker if the child is absent from school more than three consecutive school days;(d) Receive approval from the child's DCFS worker prior to making any changes to a child's educational plan;(e) Support the child's educational plan by providing each child with necessary school supplies and a suitable place to study;(f) Develop a transportation plan with the child's DSHS worker to ensure school attendance; and(g) Encourage older youth to pursue a post-secondary education when appropriate.[Statutory Authority: RCW 74.15.010, 74.15.030, 74.15.040, 74.15.090, 74.13.031, and P.L. 113-183.
