Section 388-107-0390. Use of routine psychopharmacologic medications.

- When the resident is using a psychopharmacologic medication on a routine basis, the facility must ensure that:(1) The medication is prescribed by a physician or health care professional with prescriptive authority;(2) The resident's person-centered service plan includes strategies and modifications of the environment and staff behavior to address the symptoms for which the medication is prescribed;(3) Changes in medication only occur when the prescriber decides it is medically necessary;(4) The resident's record includes documentation about the specific symptom or behavior that caused the physician to order the medication and what is required of the resident before the medication may be discontinued;(5) The resident's record includes documentation that the resident, guardian, or legal representative, if any, was informed of the need for the psychopharmacologic medication; and
