Section 296-96-23418. What requirements apply to step riser slotting?

- Escalators with smooth curved surface risers must have either:(1) Steps having cleated risers provided with vertical cleats which mesh with slots on the adjacent step tread as the steps make the transition from the incline to the horizontal; or(2) Means to cause the opening of the power circuits to the escalator driving machine motor and brake should a step be displaced against the upthrust track at the upper and lower curves in the passenger carrying line of the track system.
