Section 296-96-23260. What requirements apply to driving machine brakes?

- The elevator driving machine must be equipped with a friction brake applied by a spring or springs, and released electrically.The brake must be designed to have a capacity sufficient to hold the car at rest with its rated load. For passenger elevators and freight elevators permitted to carry employees, the brake must be designed to hold the car at rest with an additional load up to 25 percent in excess of the rated load.
