Section 296-96-02505. What is the minimum acceptable initial transfer time for an elevator door?

- The minimum acceptable time from notification that a car is answering a call until the doors of that car start to close shall be calculated from the following equation:T = D/1.5 ft or T = D/(455 mm) = 5 seconds minimum, where T equals the total time in seconds and D equals the distance (in feet or millimeters) from the point in the lobby or corridor 60 inches (1525 mm) directly in front of the farthest call button controlling that car to the centerline of its hoistway door.EXCEPTION:For car with in car lanterns, T shall be permitted to begin when the signal is visible from the point sixty inches directly in front of the furthest hall call button and the audible signal is sounded.Elevator doors shall remain fully open in response to a car call for three seconds minimum.EXCEPTION:Special purpose and residential elevators are exempt.EXCEPTION:Limited use/limited application (LULA), special purpose, and residential elevators are exempt from this section.[Statutory Authority: Chapter 70.87 RCW.
