Section 296-96-02425. Where is a shut-off valve required for hydraulic elevators?

- Two shut-off valves may be required.(1) ASME requires that a shut-off valve be installed in the machine room.(2) When the pit is lower than the machine, a shut-off valve must be installed in the pit.(3) A separate shut-off valve is not required in the pit for hydraulic elevators equipped with a safety/rupture valve that rotates no more than 180 degrees to stop the flow of hydraulic fluid and has a safety shut-off handle capable of being grasped.EXCEPTION:Limited use/limited application (LULA), special purpose and residential elevators are exempt from this section.[Statutory Authority: Chapter 70.87 RCW.
