Section 296-78-810. Chain and electric hoists.

- (1) Chain and electric hoists shall be of what is known as "all steel construction." No cast iron shall be used in parts subject to tension except drums, bearings or brake shoes.(2) The chains shall be made of the best quality steel or iron with welded links.(3) Chain and electric hoists shall have a factor of safety of at least five.(4) Chain and electric hoists shall be equipped with a device which will automatically lock the load when hoisting is stopped.(5) Electric hoists shall be provided with a limit stop to prevent the hoist block from traveling too far in case the operating handle is not released in time.(6) Workers shall not ride the load of any chain or electric hoist. If necessary to balance the load manually, it shall be done from a safe distance.(7) The rated capacity of the hoist shall be posted on both the hoist and the jib or rail.
