Chapter 296-78. Safety standards for sawmills and woodworking operations. |
Section 296-78-615. Saw filing and grinding rooms and equipment.

- (1) Approaches to filing rooms shall be kept free from material and equipment at all times.(2) Enclosed grinding and filing rooms shall be ventilated as specified in the general occupational health standard, WAC 296-62-110 through 296-62-11019.(3) Each filing and grinding room shall be provided with two exits so arranged as to permit easy escape in case of fire.(4) Floor shall be cleaned regularly and shall be kept free from oil, grease and other materials that might cause employees to slip or fall.(5) Flooring around machines shall be kept in good repair at all times.(6) Saw grinding machine belts shall be provided with guards where these belts pass through the frame of the machine.(7) All grinding wheels on such machines shall be provided with a metal retaining hood which shall also cover the arbor ends if they are exposed to contact.(8) Filing room employees shall be provided with goggles, face shields, or other necessary protective equipment and are required to wear the same.(9) Guarding and mounting of abrasive wheels shall be in accordance with chapter 296-806 WAC, Machine safety.
