Section 296-54-58970. Log trucks—Steered trailers.

- Steered trailers, not controlled from the truck cab, must be designed, constructed, and operated as follows:(1) A secure seat with substantial foot rest must be provided for the operator at the rear of the bunk. Any arrangement that permits the operator to ride in front of the bunk is prohibited unless a false bunk or other adequate protection is provided for the operator.(2) The seat for the operator must be so arranged that he has an unobstructed exit from both sides and the rear.(3) The bunk support must be so constructed that the operator has a clear view ahead at all times.(4) Adequate means of communication must be provided between the operator and the truck driver.(5) Eye protection and respirator must be provided for the operator.(6) The trailer must be equipped with fenders or splash plates to protect the operator from mud and dust so far as possible.(7) If used during periods of reduced visibility on roads not under the control of the state department of transportation, counties, or cities, the trailer must be equipped with head, tail, turn and stop lights.[Statutory Authority: RCW 49.17.010, [49.17].040 and [49.17].050.
