Section 296-54-511. Personal protective equipment (PPE).

- (1) Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, hearing and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices and protective shields and barriers, must be used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.(2) Personal protective equipment, including any personal protective equipment provided by an employee, must be maintained in a serviceable condition.(3) Design. All personal protective equipment must be of safe design and construction for the work to be performed. All safety belts and attachments must meet the requirements of section 3 of ANSI A10.14-1975.(4) Personal protective equipment, including any personal protective equipment provided by an employee, must be inspected before initial use during each workshift. Defects or damage must be repaired or the unserviceable personal protective equipment must be replaced before work is commenced.(5) Personal protective equipment required by this standard shall be provided at no cost to the employee.[Statutory Authority: RCW 49.17.010, 49.17.040, 49.17.050, 49.17.060.
