Section 246-834-090. Purpose of accreditation of midwifery educational programs.

- The secretary provides for accreditation of midwifery educational programs for the following reasons:(1) To ensure that only qualified midwives will be licensed to practice in the state of Washington.(2) To ensure the safe practice of midwifery by setting minimum standards for midwifery educational programs that prepare persons for licensure as midwives.(3) To ensure that each midwifery educational program has flexibility to develop and implement its program of study and that it is based on minimum standards for accredited schools of midwifery provided herein.(4) To ensure that standards for each accredited midwifery program promote self evaluation.(5) To assure the graduates of accredited schools of their eligibility for taking the licensing examination for midwives.[Statutory Authority: RCW 18.50.135 and 18.50.045.
