  • (1) Program staff must wash hands:
    (a) Upon arriving to the program;
    (b) After personal toileting or assisting a child with toileting;
    (c) Before and after giving medication or applying topical ointment;
    (d) After attending to an ill or injured child;
    (e) After contact with bodily fluids;
    (f) Before preparing, serving, or eating food;
    (g) When returning from playground/outside;
    (h) After handling garbage and garbage receptacles;
    (i) Before and after handling or feeding pets/animals;
    (j) After smoking; and
    (k) As needed when hands are soiled.
    (2) Children must wash their hands:
    (a) Upon arrival to the program;
    (b) When returning from playground and/or outside;
    (c) Before the child eats;
    (d) Before the child participates in food activities;
    (e) After the child's toileting;
    (f) Before and after handling or feeding pets/animals;
    (g) After touching bodily fluids, including after sneezing or coughing; and
    (h) As needed when hands are soiled.
