Section 16-252-051. Exemptions from the guarantees required in WAC 16-252-061 and 16-252-062.

- The following exemptions apply to guarantees listed in WAC 16-252-061 and 16-252-062:(1) Guarantees for crude protein, crude fat, and crude fiber are not required when:(a) The pet food or specialty pet food is intended for purposes other than to furnish these substances; or(b) These substances are insignificant to the primary purpose of the product, such as drug premixes, mineral or vitamin supplements, and molasses.(2) A mineral guarantee is not required when the food or food ingredient is:(a) Not intended or represented or does not serve as a principal source of that mineral to the animal; or(b) Contains less than six and one-half percent total minerals.(3) Guarantees for vitamins are not required when the pet food or specialty pet food is neither formulated for nor represented in any manner as a vitamin supplement.(4) Guarantees for microorganisms are not required when:(a) The pet food or specialty pet food is intended for a purpose other than to furnish microorganisms; or(b) The microorganisms are insignificant to the primary purpose of the product, and no specific label claims are made.(5) Information on animal species is not required on single ingredient products if the ingredient is not intended, represented, or defined for a specific animal species.
