  • The basic juvenile corrections officer academy curriculum of the Washington state criminal justice training commission shall be at least eighty instructional hours in length and shall include, but not be limited to, the following subject matter areas:
    (1) Core skills
    (a) Observation skills
    (b) Interpersonal skills
    (c) Security management
    (d) Supervision of youth
    (e) Discipline of youth
    (f) Proper use of physical force
    (g) Writing skills
    (2) Key skills
    (a) Legal issues
    (b) Dealing with aggressive behavior
    (c) Handling medical problems
    (d) Handling mental illness problems
    (e) Report writing
    (f) Skills training
    (g) Reception and classification
    (3) Related skills
    (a) Professionalism
    (b) Physical fitness
    (c) Stress management.
