Section 132X-60-040. Freedom of association and organization.

  • Students are free to organize and join associations to promote any legal purpose. Student organizations must be granted a charter by the associated students of South Puget Sound Community College senate before they may be officially recognized. Prior to becoming chartered, a student organization must submit to the associated students of South Puget Sound Community College senate a statement of purpose, criteria for membership, a statement of operating rules or procedure, and the names of college personnel who have agreed to serve as an advisor. All chartered student organizations must also submit to the associated students of South Puget Sound Community College senate a list of officers and keep that list updated when changes occur. In order to qualify for issuance of a charter, a student organization must be open to all students without respect to race, gender, religion, age, nationality, or sexual orientation. Affiliation with a noncampus organization shall not be grounds for denial of charter provided that other conditions for charter issuance have been met.
